Inside, wooden beams frame attic rooms dressed in Little Greene wall colors, linen curtains, and sheepskin throws. Fredericia chairs rest beneath retractable dormer windows that fold open to become balconies, pulling the Allgäu panorama directly into each room.Anja Schott-Engelke and Michael Schott left Hamburg inspired by Stockholm's Ett Hem and searched for a place to build something personal. They found the old Scheffau schoolhouse and designed every room themselves, filling it with furniture from Bielefelder Werkstätten and memories from years of travel. There is no reception desk. Anja and Michael greet each guest at the door. Alpenloge follows a less-is-more philosophy, eating, sleeping, relaxing, nothing more.

The first summit hike to Hirschberg starts directly from Alpenloge's doorstep. Spring carpets the West Allgäu meadows in dandelions and wildflowers. Summer opens trails along the Allgäu waterways, with swimming and sailing on Lake Constance nearby. Autumn brings Indian summer colors, clear mountain air, and the mid-September cattle drive through Scheffau's valley. Winter transforms the landscape for cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, and alpine skiing. Back at Alpenloge, evenings center on hot-spiced wine and tea by the fireplace. Head Chef Mark Beastall leads intimate cooking experiences for two to four guests, running from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. Each participant receives an Alpenloge cooking apron and a three-course evening menu.
