Rubble from an old aviary on the land became the pavement base.
Marta Fonseca and Goncalo Alves founded Areias do Seixo in 2010 with one conviction: sustainability is not an add-on but the architecture itself. An organic permaculture garden feeds Restaurant Semear, scents the spa treatments and brews the afternoon tea. Orange peels from breakfast juice dry into firelighters. No single-use plastics, no disposable amenities, no mini bar bottles. The place slows time down deliberately.
Every stay includes group yoga, functional training and bicycle use. A guided visit to the permaculture garden lets guests collect eggs, pick herbs and learn about the self-sustaining ecosystem. The From Garden to 5 O'clock Tea session turns fresh herbs into a brewed ritual.
Sound journeys and fire circles run in the evenings. From Garden to Plate is a hands-on experience: harvest from the garden, then cook lunch. Picnic baskets travel to the sand dunes.
