activities at himmlhof

Guide Simon launches tandem paragliding flights from the Kapall summit station, a 60-minute ride over the Arlberg. The sunrise hike to St. Christoph climbs 600 metres in 90 minutes, no experience required. For serious alpinists, the guided Patteriol ascent reaches 3,054 metres over a full day with 1,085 metres of elevation gain.

Every Sunday, the Gampenbahn carries guests up to a mountain breakfast with panoramic views, served from nine until noon. The Arctic Swim Experience pairs a guided hike with cold-water swimming in a high-altitude Tyrolean lake. In winter, the Arlberg ski area starts from St. Anton's front door. Summer bookings from 2025 include the St. Anton Summer Card Premium, covering all mountain railways.

Gastronomy

Morning begins with a full breakfast buffet. Afternoons bring a Tyrolean Jause, the traditional mountain snack of cured meats, cheese, and bread. The kitchen cooks with what the family calls "love and dedication," and fine cuisine is woven into every stay rather than treated as a separate event. After-dinner drinks close each evening in the warmth of the lounge.

Wellness

The Himml Spa is built from the same wood and stone that define the rest of the hotel. A Finnish sauna and an organic sauna sit alongside an aroma steam bath. The rock grotto cooling pool drops the temperature after each session. An indoor pool stretches beneath low light.

Teak loungers and waterbeds fill the relaxation area. A tea corner in the quiet zone keeps things gentle between treatments. The massage menu runs from sports and deep tissue work to hot stone, myofascial release, reflexology, and a dedicated skiers massage built for legs that have spent the day on the Arlberg.

Sustainability at Himmlhof

The Himmlhof began as a 17th-century farmhouse. The Penz family chose to restore rather than rebuild, keeping original stone walls and reclaimed timber as the bones of the hotel. Wood and stone remain the dominant elements inside and out, a deliberate decision to invite nature into the structure.

Operations favour longevity over disposability. Regional Tyrolean fabrics furnish the rooms. The kitchen sources locally for its daily Jause and breakfast. The family's multi-generational stewardship of the same building reflects a commitment to place that outlasts trends.
