activities at hotel castel

Hiking trails thread through some of South Tyrol's most dramatic terrain, starting directly from the vineyard paths around the hotel. High-quality e-bikes are available for rides ranging from gentle valley routes to steep mountain passes. Two clay tennis courts sit on the grounds, free for guests.

The South Tyrol Guest Pass covers all public transport, cable cars, funiculars, and entry to roughly eighty museums. A golf card grants twenty percent off green fees at nine regional courses. For something different, Castel fine driving pairs classic convertibles with electronic road books for self-guided tours through the Alps.

Gastronomy

Gerhard Wieser leads the Castel fine dining restaurant with a Michelin Star and a philosophy rooted in long-standing supplier relationships. Some producers grow and prepare ingredients exclusively for the hotel. Truffles, scampi, and regional South Tyrolean products anchor a style the kitchen calls creative and highly unusual.

Dinner begins with a visit to the kitchen for a first tasting. Multi-course menus follow, paired with selected wines. The restaurant seats guests Tuesday to Saturday from seven in the evening. Beyond the starred restaurant, the ALaCarte restaurant and Lounge Terrace and Vintage Bar keep things lighter. Weekly themed buffets and a cocktail reception with gala dinner are included in every stay.

Wellness

The Meranesse fine Spa opens onto the same panorama that defines the rest of Hotel Castel. The heated outdoor infinity pool measures twenty by eight metres, with a whirlpool at its far edge and year-round heating. A light-flooded indoor pool sits beneath a six-metre ceiling, its pillars lined with shimmering mosaics.

Multiple saunas, adventure showers, and a Kneipp basin fill the spa's interior. Indoor and outdoor relaxation areas face the valley. The panorama fitness room runs Technogym equipment. Outside, garden terraces and sunbathing lawns offer quiet spots among the vineyards. Soft bathrobes and slippers come standard.

Sustainability at Hotel Castel

Hotel Castel's approach to sustainability centers on the kitchen. Chef Gerhard Wieser maintains close, long-standing relationships with regional suppliers. Some producers create ingredients exclusively for the hotel, a commitment that supports small-scale South Tyrolean agriculture.

Dishes are built on fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced within a tight network. This careful sourcing reduces transport distances and keeps quality visible on every plate. The philosophy is quiet and practical, rooted in twenty-five years of family ownership rather than formal certification.
