Woidhaisl lake view
A 75m² standalone chalet with lake views, featuring its own private sauna, hot tub, and kitchenette — described as a true refuge for couples and those seeking peace.
Neuschönau, Germany
A family-run nature hotel at the edge of the Bavarian Forest National Park, built from local wood and granite, with private-sauna chalets and a philosophy of 'joy of life made easy'.

Local wood and national park granite shape every wall and threshold at Naturhotel Euler Neuschönau. A natural swimming pond sits directly in front of the building. Beyond it, the Bavarian Forest National Park begins, home to lynxes, otters, and capercaillies across Central Europe's largest forest reserve. The 21 suites face the forest. The standalone Woidhaisl chalets each have a private sauna, hot tub, and terrace. Spend a whole day in your bathrobe if you like.
Daniela and Roland Mautner run the hotel on a simple principle: 'joy of life made easy'. Light-heartedness comes before etiquette. Everything is possible, nothing is mandatory. The Bavarian Forest is their home and source of strength, and that relationship runs through the building materials, the kitchen, and the daily rhythm. It feels personal, unhurried, and genuinely rooted in this landscape.
Hiking trails leave directly from the hotel into the Bavarian Forest National Park. The Baumwipfelpfad treetop walk rises above the canopy nearby. Haus zur Wildnis keeps an outdoor enclosure with native animals. Guided hikes follow routes through old-growth forest toward Lusen and Falkenstein. Cyclists and mountain bikers share the network of national park trails.
The 18-hole national park golf course has a driving range, practice bunker, and chipping green. Day trips cross the Czech border into Sumava National Park by motorcycle or e-bike. Summer brings swimming in the natural pond, Nordic walking, geocaching, and tobogganing in Grafenau. Passau is close enough for a boat trip on the Danube. In winter, the forest turns quiet and snow-covered.

The Genussstube is deliberately small. Chef Stefan builds set menus and a la carte dishes around regional Bavarian products, adding a refined creative touch. Steaks are high-quality and carefully selected. Sophia, daughter of the house, handles desserts. The room is minimalist, warm, and timelessly elegant.
Breakfast runs from 7:30 to 11:30 with homemade specialities and freshly prepared egg dishes. Half-board guests choose from meat, fish, vegetarian, or vegan menus served each evening. Woidhaisl chalet guests can have dinner delivered to their door. The kitchen motto is honest, regional, sustainable. No food goes to waste. Everything is cooked fresh from seasonal ingredients.
The Woid-SPA holds four saunas: a Finnish sauna, an herbal sauna, a steam bath, and a clothed textile sauna that welcomes families. The Woid-See indoor pool keeps water at 33 degrees, with an outdoor swimming area and bubble loungers. A relaxation room with a vitamin bar overlooks the grounds.
Outside, the natural swimming pond catches the light. Each Woidhaisl chalet has its own private sauna and hot tub on a terrace facing the forest. A sunbathing lawn stretches between the hotel and the trees. The fitness room covers endurance and strength. The sauna area opens at 11:00 and the pool at 7:30, so mornings start with a quiet swim.
The Bavarian Forest is the Mautner family's home and source of strength. That conviction shaped the building itself. Local wood and granite from the national park form the walls. Green roofs cover the structures. Treating nature and resources with respect is not a policy here, it is a founding principle.
Solar panels on the headquarters roof generate electricity. A heat recovery system supplements heating from renewable raw materials. Rainwater is treated and reused on site. E-bike and e-car charging stations stand ready. The kitchen avoids food waste and sources regionally and seasonally. Room cleaning runs automatically after every third night to reduce water, energy, and cleaning product use. The hotel partners with Bluehpakt Bayern, a Bavarian pollinator protection initiative.
