The back door opens straight onto Beitostølen's ski slope. Boot dryers hum in eighty lockable ski lockers on the ground floor. Upstairs, Casa Montagna fills the corridor with the smell of slow-cooked ragu. Down the hall, Ridderbadet's pool club splits into an adults' section and a separate children's area. Everything sits under one roof, in the centre of the village.
Apartments run from 35 to 90 square metres, sleeping two to six. The largest have private saunas and enough space for a family to spread out after a day on the mountain. Head Chef Martins Lejins cooks Italian from scratch using Norwegian game and seasonal produce. The hotel calls itself "a taste of Italy on the mountain", and between the Tuscan three-course dinners and the snow outside, the description holds.
