Hemsedal, Norway
A glass-and-stone mountain resort above the Hemsedal valley, with Restaurant Lynx, a full spa, a 44-seat cinema, and panoramic views across the Norwegian highlands.

Skarsnuten sits 3.5 kilometres up the hillside from the Hemsedal valley floor. Glass walls run the full height of the building, pulling the mountain panorama into every room. Stone, wood, and natural textiles in muted tones blur the line between indoors and out. Windowsills double as deep sofa corners, each one framing a different angle of the valley.
The resort spans an original historic section and a newer extension built across multiple levels. A 44-seat private cinema screens film classics on Wednesdays and Fridays. Padel courts sit alongside the spa. Restaurant Lynx occupies its own multi-level space. The scale is generous, but the layered layout keeps each corner feeling intimate and quiet.
Hemsedal Ski Center lies directly below the hotel, reachable via the slope-side road. Ski rental is available on site. In summer, the same mountain terrain opens to hikers and trail runners. Packed lunches can be ordered 24 hours ahead for full-day outings.
Morning yoga classes run in the spa area. The fitness gym is free for hotel guests. Two padel courts are available year-round. The 44-seat cinema shows children's films on Saturday afternoons and classics on Wednesday and Friday evenings at 9pm. Private screenings cost NOK 595.

Restaurant Lynx occupies multiple levels of stone, wood, and glass. Seating areas split into smaller sections, so even a full dining room feels private. The kitchen draws from the mountains, forests, and fjords of Western Norway. Menus change with the seasons.
Breakfast runs from 07:30 to 10:30, with a late start on Sundays. Lunch is served from noon until five. Dinner begins at five in summer and six in winter. A Skarsnuten Bar sits alongside the main restaurant. Miru, a separate Japanese-concept venue, also operates within the resort. Pizza is available through the winter season from noon to ten.
The spa stretches across a dedicated floor with multiple sauna types, a jacuzzi, ice baths, experience showers, and foot baths. Aufguss sauna sessions raise the heat with guided rituals. Morning yoga classes start the day before the first spa slot opens.
Four daily time slots structure the flow, starting at 10am and ending at 9:30pm. Hotel guests pay NOK 195 for access. Personalized treatments use brands based on natural extracts. Towels and slippers are provided. The fitness gym is free for all hotel guests, with access included when a treatment is booked.
Skarsnuten's architecture uses stone, wood, and glass sourced to reflect the mountain landscape it sits within. Natural materials and quality textiles in muted tones run through every room, favouring durability over disposability.
The kitchen at Restaurant Lynx follows the seasons and sources from the surrounding mountains, forests, and fjords of Western Norway. This regional approach reduces transport distance and anchors the menu in what the landscape provides.
