The cable car closes its doors and climbs. No road reaches vigilius mountain resort. At 1,500 metres above Lana, the building dissolves into the mountainside. Matteo Thun wrapped it in local larch wood and clay. Floor-to-ceiling glass pulls the Dolomites inside. The silence is immediate and complete.

Owner Ulrich Ladurner built this place on a single principle: 'Eco, not ego.' That conviction shaped every decision, from biomass heating to the triple-glazed windows. The architecture does not compete with the landscape. It yields to it. Vigilius calls this a conscious arrival, a slow transition from the valley below into a space for calm and clarity. The mountain was here first, and the resort preserves that sense of origin.

Hiking trails leave directly from the resort into alpine meadows and larch forests above 1,500 metres. Forest bathing sessions follow marked paths through old-growth woodland. Archery takes place on a dedicated range with mountain views. Yoga and Pilates run in dedicated indoor spaces, often paired with guided meditation.

Winter transforms the mountain. Snowshoe trails cross open ridges toward the Dolomites. Ice skating runs on a natural rink nearby. In warmer months, cycling routes descend toward the Ultental valley, known for its ancient larch trees and traditional farms. Paragliding launches from the slopes above the resort.

The Aquileia Spa spreads across 1,200 square metres at mountain level. A heated pool looks out toward the Dolomites through a glass wall. A whirlpool sits alongside. The sauna and steam bath occupy separate rooms, both finished in natural wood.

Sustainability at Vigilius Mountain Resort

Sustainability is not a programme at vigilius. It is the founding idea. Ulrich Ladurner and Matteo Thun built the resort on the principle 'Eco, not ego.' Every material choice, from the larch cladding harvested nearby to the clay walls, followed that conviction. The architecture consumes as little as it shelters.

Biomass heating runs on local wood chips in a closed cycle. Triple-glazed windows hold warmth at 1,500 metres without excess energy. The resort holds EarthCheck Gold certification and the South Tyrolean Sustainability Label at Level 3. No road serves the property. The cable car is the only way up, keeping the mountain quiet by design.
